Body Fat Percentage
The body fat percentage (BFP) is the total body fat mass represented as a percentage of the total body mass i.e., the total mass of fat divided by total body mass, multiplied by 100. Body fat is the sum total of essential body fat in addition to (plus) the stored body fat. Essential body fat is necessary to maintain life and reproductive functions. Your body fat percentage tells a lot about your overall health and fitness level. If your body fat percentage is high then your overall fitness level is low and you are at an increased risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and other lifestyle diseases. However, you will experience myriad health issues when your body fat percentage goes too low or below the normal level. Some of the issues you might experience in case of very low BFP are heart problems, lower energy levels, weaker muscles, reproductive health issues, you getting a bit irritable/cranky, etc. Knowing your body fat percentage is perhaps the first step you need to take before embarking on your fitness journey or if you are serious about your overall health. Your overall health will be better when you keep your body fat percentage within the normal range. You will have toned muscles with a better aesthetic appearance. Your metabolism will work efficiently and it will be easier for you to maintain healthy body weight.
